He actually didn't glue paper together. He was so poor, he typed it on a roll of hand towel paper he stole from a restroom.

This is in fact an image of the original manuscript of On The Road which was written on one continuous scroll.

Well, it was transcribed from notebooks he kept on to a 120' roll of teletype paper (or eight sheets of tracing paper taped together depending on the source), but yeah. He sometimes condemned the work as self indulgent crap in later life, and sometimes said it was about his search for God in the context of his Catholic beliefs.
