Planet waves makes musical accessories, this specific tool is intended for guitar players, but there are plenty of similar products for climbing, etc
The rubber bottom comes off and it has lines meant to replicate guitar strings to maintain calluses. It's a good tool though, helps me with bass playing
Helpful for sax players too !
A friend had one to help build speed on the guitar. Not sure if it worked.

I have one of these, it's been great help getting me recover from a Carpal Tunnel operation. Also good when you use the 'strings simulator' side for getting the right calluses for playing Guitar/Uke:)
