Caelograph Fountain Pen by Caran d’Ache joins the writing instrument with a tool to determine the position of the stars.
The Swiss company Caran d’Ache presents his new limited edition, the Caran d’ache Caelograph a name born between the union of two words, Caelum which in latin means sky and Graphen meaning “to write” in Greek.
Caelograph has two rings, both marked by steps: the first is fixed and indicates the months and days, and the second is rotatable and instead shows the hours. By moving the last one, the sky is reproduced in the body of the pen is moved accordingly: the constellations and the stars will be aligned according to the position of the stars at the time of the day as if we looked at the sky above our heads.
The fountain pen has a 18-carat gold nib, protected with platinum in the Alpha version. Fine engraving of the compass rose that is mounted on the tip of the pen. M, F or B width available on request. The writing block is engraved with the hour lines typically found on sundials. The pen use a converter/cartridge filling system.
The body of the pen has 51 constellations and 353 stars delicately engraved on midnight blue Chinese lacquer impregnated with particles of aluminium.
A semi-transparent sleeve is superimposed on the sky chart indicating the horizon line, the other compass points, the Zenith and the latitude. Polished to highlight the brilliance of the midnight blue lacquer.
A compass rose is mounted on the tip. The cap is engraved with the hour lines associated with sundials. The clip is shaped like a compass needle.
The Sirius edition is gold plated and set with a diamond (Ø1.30 mm) as a tribute to the brightest star in the heavens. It is limited to 52 pieces for the 52 weeks of the year.
