@Heju75 I don't know about other countries but just coming off the Boston Marathon bombing, I absolutely find no humor, wit, or creativity in this, dark or not.
After reading the message, I scanned the background of the photo and thought of all the poor people who had their legs blown apart at the Boston Marathon by someone carrying a bomb in a bag. Is this when the humor is supposed to hit me?
@rocart my hypothesis is the bag maker has not written this statement on this bag lightly. he or she does not want you to laugh. he or she wanted to use of words to express something different from and frankly opposite to their literal meaning. That's it. But if one finds it amusing one can suspect to be into dark humour. If his or her point is to sell this bag. Let's be assured that he or she wants you to buy the statement more than a means to carry things to be used in mass destruction. Irony is not supposed to be funny. It is just not comedy, it's ironic. Alanis Morisette sung about ironic situations. I never asked my parents when they did not see me finish my plate of food why systematically they were talking to me about starving children. So I will not ask you about why a tote bag on a website dedicated to fancy can rely you with an actual attentat. But I will point you to another kind of ironic statements far less provocative. http://www.thefancy.com/things/280831953/Big-Mistake-Plate and http://www.thefancy.com/things/265449349/Poisoned-Glass they are the same articles. all I have to say is the statement of the bag is purely descriptive, it does not even claim intent to do harm. Let's at least acknowledge that.
3 months ago I may have found the bag humorous. I am from Boston. The juxtaposition of the message on the bag to the lower legs of the people in the background has a very negative effect.
Art is an interaction between the artist and the viewer. In my view, this is an amazingly ill-timed marketing attempt. It is hard to laugh at such a message while watching the bombing victims, now amputees, throwing out the first pitch at a Red Sox game, interviewed in hospital beds, and making plans for prosthetics.
