i think its for measuring anything you draw, not just straight lines. but yes, without a ruler, it would be almost impossible to replicate the picture
none of you have ever drawn a straight line putting the ruler upside down above the pencil? It worked all the times for me, especially when I had to draw a line on the very bottom of a page.
the point is, if you can use a ruler to draw the line you can also use the measurement on it. It will prove useful if you can draw a straight line using a straight object that doesn’t have a measurement printed on it. Yeah, it’s pretty useless actually.
I think a ruler works just fine...i trust my eyeballs over some ball.
