I actually bought one of his knife holders a few weeks ago, and am very pleased with it.. Will definitely consider buying a few more since these are great gifts for weddings etc! Btw, you can also place an order at etsy.com at the moment, if you search for "Hand Made Knife Holder of Olive Tree Wood". :)
why on earth would u put the magnets on the outside? i have made a couple of those, n i put one large magnet in the back of them so there is only wood ( i used teak, maple) on the front of it. nice work though :)
Putting the magnets on the outside makes puts them much closer to the knife than if you hide them inside the wood. On this knife holder the magnets are about 1mm below the surface of the rest of the wood. This holds the knife much in place much better than if they were placed for instance 4-5 mm behind the surface. I also think showing the metal on the magnets makes for a nice contrast with the pattern of the olive wood.
on the ones i have made the magnets have been about 1.5mm below the surface of the wood but on the back side, i used bigger magnets though, i think they were about 12mm diameter n about 4mm thick, i wont agree with you that the one on the picture holds the knife better. and the metal showing is a matter of taste :)
