this does have a meaning. it's supposedly money from an artifact in Mexico that was burnt by Scott Campbell. the artifact was made from dollar bills. so by buying this, it gives you that feeling like you own something from the event. and the silver is 625, whatever that means.
So the artist set piles of money on fire in a country where the one dollar bill is worth more than it is here, and now he wants to share the experience by allowing us to own a piece of this bullshit? I'd like to share the sentiment. I have small glass bottles. I have cats who poop a lot. I just need the artist's address.
Clot Necklaces by Scott Campbell. A burnt U.S. $1 bill is inserted into a transparent cylinder casing and is embedded with 925 silver.
The story behind the art:
The inspiration behind this venture started when Clot’s creative director, Edison Chen, discovered Scott Campbell had lit his art on fire from his exhibition in Mexico City. These pieces were sculptures made from American dollar bills. “Edison heard about it and he was really excited about the idea of having a pile of cash burning in the streets of Mexico, and so we ended up making a jewelry line based on that idea. The product itself is really an artifact from a happening... it has that sense that it’s a piece of something that came from an event.” Campbell noted.
