As for price: This units portability, ability to be folded up & moved as well as the high quality exterior steel & high quality wood is surely part of the reason. But this can .... and will .... no doubt be duplicated in the U.S. for a much lesser cost by the year 2014. U can bet on that! Personally, I luv 'Container Houses' for all the above reasons. In Japan, where this trend has really taken hold many new homeowners are choosing such housing & giving it truly 'high-end' finishings like top-quality granite, wood, carpet, lighting, saunas, jet-pools, u name it! In Seattle, WA a family of four took 3 railroad containers & made a 2-level gorgeous home situated within area of traditional homes! 2-cars forming a 'L' shape for the base & 1-car situated triangularly above the 'L' + added a regular garage for 3 autos! The house is painted a beautiful medium-dark green outside. Inside it is astounding including a spiral staircase, Solar Panels, granite, Sub-Zero Fridge's, restaurant-style Oven's, hi-end floor-to-ceiling cabinets, a 40-ft. dining table, French Doors, Marble patio/BBQ, etc. See Jetson Green site, if its still on their. Building Cost for Structure alone: $65,000 !
The NEW direction for affordable housing!
