the only way for the stairs to be structurally sound would be if they were 1 thick steel plate placed directly into concrete or cinder-block but even then i wouldn't seem them lasting. But its soooo awesome
guys, I've seen stairs like this in person, each tread is thick 2 cm plate steel either set into the wall's concrete or bolted onto the wall with a mounting bracket that is later covered over in wall plaster. They're just as sturdy as normal stairs just visually dramatic. Unless your particular building code requires dual handrails, this could be done virtually anywhere.
@iloverocknroll - poor on furniture?! Follow the link and check out the rest of the photos, I spotted at least four different design classics (all dining chairs) for starters... Extra marks for anyone that can spot and name them and their designers :p
I'm not a structural engineer but a quick Google search set the minimum accepted load at about 600 lbs. per tread which is easy to overcome with steel. You're welcome @sambond
Just goes to show that first impressions don't necessarily count! I would definitely say yes to having the opportunity to live somewhere like this, though it wouldn't stay so spotless with me around!
I built the stairs in the loft I live in now, and are what Realtors call Hollywood stairs, in that they don't have a back and you can see through them, but they're not quite this "Fancy" (excuse the pun)
Wish we could get away with doing this in the uk...very cool!
Why can't we?
beautiful use of wood
Wauw. That's so cool! :D
Very cool but I doubt the stairs would carry an adult.
@sambond health and safety? :/
Oh you don't worry about that when it comes to style ;D
My thoughts exactly, desdenova.
Stairs need a lot of reinforcement

Poor on furniture!
The concept itself is beautiful
I would always trip up the third step!
Still love it tho!
@wizzbritt @Parky I bet we could if you counterweighted the stairs

It must be possible, it's not the first time this kind of thing has been designed, or built!

Thank you @DGear. Much appreciated!
@DGear I figured as much, is there a maximum weight limit?
