Landscape only, at least practically speaking. Magnus FAQ says you can try portrait "but don't breathe" around it, ha.

I thought it wasn't good to put magnets on close to iPhone?
Old tech was not very magnet friendly. CRT monitors and regular hard drives could be damaged by magnets but solid state drives and LCD screens are fine. Hell the ipad2 has magnets in the rim which holds down the smart cover.
