Virtual Wall is an innovative device that makes it safer for pedestrians to cross the road by projecting laser images when the red traffic light is on.
A pedestrian is killed in a traffic crash in the USA every 110 minutes; one is injured every nine minutes, according to federal data. Crosswalks can be especially perilous for the elderly. Among people 70 and older, 36% of pedestrian deaths in 2006 occurred at intersections.
Lasers that melt through steel plate are CO2 lasers, they emits laser light in the infrared and microwave region of the spectrum. Laser pointers (like this design) are diode lasers, no disintegrating.

But what happens its you drive thru it?
@cashmereAvenue I'm not thinking its a real solid wall that's built every time there's a red light!
Great idea!!!
It's not a real wall. Just laser lights. I'm pretty sure if someone drove thru it, it just wouldn't show the image
This would scare the shit out of me
A more minimal version would be really cool
Expensive and more of a distraction...
A big distraction to make someone stop behind the pedestrian line to save lives, you're right..
A virtual abbey road?
@CashmereAvenue it will totally destroy and melt the intruder!!!
Design for public spaces often under rated and under spent on.
Matrix I love you
Wow id like to walk into that
Now *that's* how you cross the street.
looks like a great method of causing car crashes to me.
@mattmaber It's not an actual wall, just lasers that come on at a red light. Stopping at a red light is not a huge cause of car crashes.
Brilliant idea
If driven through, you disintegrate.
That's amazing...to be disintegrated and beamed across the road..that's the future of road safety!
Mad cool. Def would love to see this on the roads

@Juwlz yes I realise that, but it would be EXTREMELY distracting.
Cool!
Hold on...taking the ridiculous seriously is my job.
Très dangereux, non ?
non ce n'est pas dangereux, c'est seulement la lumière comme un pointeur laser
Ha! Fake, but funny. The 81 corrola was a nice contrast against the 2015 technology placement.
@Sleeve It's an industrial design concept. It does not yet exist.
