Why the damned cigarette ?

Women should run the world.
It seems most photographers use cigarettes in photographs to relay a rebellious image. This photo, I feel, is taking more of a Mad Men approach with its use. Smoking is a turn off, however in pictures it's a cool prop. Ideas on alternatives?

To karensmither: Ideas on alternatives? Here's one: why not use an elegant looking pen or any other type of writing instrument?

The cigaret is a sex symbol (freud), and Them you are right - it's very inspired by the mad men trend. Therefor of course it they had to have it in the picture! And I love it the way is is.
