Salted butter doesn't go bad for a very long time, I just leave it uncovered on a folded paper towel in the fridge. Infamous G is right though: just fold the paper back.
Im actually pretty sure you can leave out butter for like a month seems unethical butter is like 1 dolllar for a pound?seems a waste.
